Get Involved

As an on-campus group, we at Culinarian are always excited to meet new students and collaborate on new projects.  If you are interested in learning more about openings for any of the below positions and departments, please send us a message through our Contact page. At this time, we are finishing up our  second volume of issues and are seeking new executive board members. Other positions will begin actively recruiting with applications for the next volume (ie the 2016-2017 school year) beginning Summer-Fall 2015.

Here’s a breakdown of the different departments at Culinarian:

Executive Board

Students on the Exec Board help run the magazine as a student group.  This includes making important decisions about recognition applications, staff organization, and developing core documents such as the constitution.

Editorial

Editors and Copy Editors are in charge of reviewing contributed work.  They are the final say in everything regarding written work from the placement of a semi-colon to assigning story pitches to managing a writer’s personal voice.  Additionally, Editors work closely with their associated Designers to develop the spreads for their department.

Design

Designers literally craft and produce the magazine.  They are assigned specific pages and are given freedom to make creative and unique page styles.  Additionally, Designers are paired with Editors to help establish consistent visions.  Experience with Photoshop and InDesign is preferred.

Business

Students in this department can be assigned to specific sub-departments, such as Finance, Advertising, and Public Relations.  PR is very important for a student application, especially when it comes to event planning and teaming up with other groups to co-sponsor launch parties. Business managers are influential in making the magazine sustainable as well as accessible to a large audience.  Students interested in gaining business media experience should consider joining this department.

Contributors

Do you craft food prose straight from the heart?  Do you spend the first 10 minutes of every meal taking pictures of your food?  Do you doodle ice cream sundaes?  If any of the answers are yes, then you’d be a great contributor for Culinarian.  Writers report to their Editors for pitches and review.  Photographers are matched through the Design department.  Workshops will be held by the Creative Director for all writers and photographers to hone contributors’ skills.  Additionally, if you’re interested in contributing original art (like mixed media or sketches), then fill out the application below!  We are also open to reviewing creative writing (such as poetry or short stories) related to food.
