Editor in Chief Amanda Tien discusses Culinarian‘s coverage in Hoot.

From the beginning, Manon and I have been enamored of fellow student publication Hoot (a fashion, culture, and lifestyle magazine). I wrote a short restaurant review feature for one of their issues, and since then have been interested in the possibilities of a food-only magazine.  Hoot, as we saw it, was a great model for what our magazine could become some day.  It had applied for student funding, garnered campus recognition as a serious publication, and had a core group of staff members that were dedicated to its mission.  We met and exchanged several emails with Nicole Estevez, my old A&E editor and now the current Editor in Chief of Hoot, asking her advice on how we deal with money, handle sticky situations with staff, and develop our magazine to be a recognized student group.

A few weeks later, writers from Hoot contacted us and asked if we’d like to do an interview discussing our new culinary magazine.  How glamorous and awesome is that?!  So Manon and I sat down with writers Alina Abazova and Kelly Lane to talk about our personal relationship with food and the future of the magazine.  We’re thrilled to have the support of such a wonderful publication!  Thanks Nicole, Alina, and Kelly!
